Scotland is a country that geographically lays at the northern third or so of the United Kingdom, of which it part of. It has its border with England to the southern lay. Scotland and it’s coastal regions border the North Sea on its east side, the Atlantic Ocean on the north and west, and the North Channel and Irish Sea to the south west. Apart from the mainland, Scotland also consists of over 790 islands, the more famous of which include the Northern Isles and the Hebrides. Scotland also lays claim to the United Kingdoms biggest mountain, Ben Nevis, which is known to locals, rather informally as ‘The Ben’.

Scotland is also famous for its lochs, of which it is estimated there are least 31 460. The most famous of these lochs are of course Loch Ness (the largest in terms of volume) and Loch Lomond (The largest in terms of surface area).
